ACTA AGRONOMICA TOMUS 13. (A MTA AGRÁRTUDOMÁNYI KÖZLEMÉNYEI, 1964)

1964 / 1-2. szám - L. LEHOCZKY-P. SOÓS: Design of an Outdoor Radiation (Gamma) Field

2 L. LEHOCZKY and P. SOÓS Although experiments concerning the problem in question are in several countries still in an early stage, the hitherto obtained results are very promising. To join the development, which in other countries had already been arrived at, an adequate number of technically suitable equipments should be provided for, furthermore, great importance should he attributed to the training of technically and agriculturally qualified experts. General description of some existing irradiation fields Fig. 1 shows the layout of the Balsgard irradiation field established in 1959. The radioactive source was Cobalt 60 radiating gamma rays. The container of the radioactive source and the guiding tube mounted upon same is presented in Fig. 2. The radioactive source placed into the lead lined container is absolutely harmless. After being lifted out from the lead casing it irradiates plants in its surroundings through a thin-walled plexy tube fastened to the container. The radioactive source can be lifted from the container by an oil-hydraulic system seen in the Fig. Fig. 3 shows the aerial view of a circular irradiation field established near Rome in 1959.
