4. Könyvek-Illusztrációk - Kass János: A könyv mestere - Kner Imre

THE MASTER OF THE BOOK Throughout his life, lános Kass held the work of Imre Kner to be of defining importance in the creation of Hungarian book art. His art was a source from which generations could draw inspiration. His greatness as a human being was manifest in many wonderful works. It was the little Kner printing works that started the renaissance of Hungarian book art. In Kass's view the passing years have proved Imre Kner right: his works based on a clarified structure, with classically pure typography, were before their time. Today automation and factory technology demand this purity of form, this extreme simplicity, the perfect harmony of black and white. Today's Kner Printing Works (writes Kass in his article) had to grapple with new, unknown difficulties, and yet managed single-handedly to create a museum that presents the Kner legacy and the pioneers of Hungarian printing. We need traditions, we need to be familiar with the achievements of the past; we need to save and support our values, for they are all we have to build with.
