FOUNDATION A támogatások odaítéléséről pályázat alapján dönt a kuratórium (tagjai ez idő szerint: Markovics Ferenc kuratóriumi elnök. Keleti Éva, Kaiser Ottó, Pintér Márta és Szigeti Tamás). A Kuratórium megbízatása öt évre szól. A pályázatokat a Magyar Sajtó lapban, illetve honlapján, valamint a napi sajtóban nyilvánosan kell meghirdetni. Ugyanígy, a megszületett döntéseket is nyilvánosságra kell hozni. (A hétoldalas Alapító Okirat még számos ügyintézési módra tartalmaz előírásokat.) A Sajtófotó Alapítvány első ízben a 2003. év végén hirdetett pályázatot az egyik „mostohának” ítélt műfaj, a fotóesszé felkarolására. A megjelölt határidőig, 2004. február 15-ig, 41 kiváló fotográfus adta be pályamunkáját, ami igazolni látszott a kuratórium előzetes feltételezését, vagyis, hogy igenis mutatkozik érdeklődés a mai magyar élet kevéssé ismert vagy problematikus területeinek feltárására. Közülük végül Domaniczky Tivadar és Kovalovszky Dániel szinopszisát ítélte megvalósításra érdemesnek és 500-500 ezer forinttal támogatta a majdnem egész éves kivitelezési munkát. Év közben pedig ugyancsak félmillió forinttal járult hozzá Normantas Pauliusnak a Robert Capa nyomdokain készült könyve nyomdaköltségeinek fedezéséhez. Az elkészült fotóesszéket a kuratórium elfogadta, az ezekből válogatott munkákkal most részint a Fotóriporter oldalain ismerkedhet meg a nagyközönség, másfelől kiállításon is láthatók lesznek a legjobb alkotások. Időközben kiírásra került a 2005. évi pályázat, sőt már a beérkezett 40 pályázat értékelése is megtörtént. A fotóesszé kategóriában Dezső Tamásnak az újgazdag fiatalok életével és Pólya Zoltánnak a régi magyar mesterségek „képszótárával” kapcsolatos elképzelését találták legígéretesebbnek, és egyenként félmillió forintot biztosítanak a megvalósításra. Ugyancsak ötszázezer forinttal támogatják Szarka Klárának a hetvenes-nyolcvanas évek képes magazinjairól írandó tanulmányát, négyszázezer forinttal a kaposvári Együd Árpád Általános Művelődési Központ Werner Bischof-kiállításának létrehozására vonatkozó, valamint háromszázezer forinttal Elek Judit Katalinnak és Erdei Krisztinának a Nők a nőkről kiállítás megvalósításának ötleteit. A Sajtófotó Alapítvány Kuratóriuma örömmel tapasztalta a várakozáson felüli pályázati kedvet és miután fájó szívvel állapította meg, hogy jónéhány arra érdemes elképzelést anyagiak hiányában nem állott módjában „életre segíteni”, reménykedve várja újabb támogatók jelentkezését. Foundation: private foundation, its nature: open. This means that the following may join the Foundation: any natural or legal entity, or organisation which does not have legal standing, which agrees with the aims of the Foundation and offers support to further these aims, to a degree that makes it suitable to join the Foundation. Up to the present time, the following have come forward with significant amounts of money to support the aims of our Foundation: the Raiffeisen Bank, Panasonic Hungary Co. Ltd. and Hungart, the Association of Legal Administration for Visual Artists. The Board of Trustees awards grants on the basis of the applications. (The members of the Board are at present: Ferenc Markovics, Chairman of the Board; Éva Keleti; Ottó Kaiser; Márta Pintér and Tamás Szigeti.) The mandate of the Board members is for five years. The competitions must be publicly announced in the Hungarian Press Journal, on its web page and in the daily press. In the same way, any decisions taken must be made public. (The seven page charter stipulates numerous other administrative procedures.) The Press Photography Foundation announced its first competition at the end of 2003 in support of the photo-essay, one of the genres considered to have ‘fallen on hard times’. Applications were received from forty-four excellent photographers by the deadline on February 15, 2004. This substantiates the assumption of the Board, that there is indeed a will to explore the lesser known or problematic areas of Hungarian life. Finally, Tivadar Domaniczky’s and Dániel Kovalovszky’s synopses were deemed worthy of implementation and grants of 500.000 HUF each were awarded for the execution of these projects over a period of almost a year. During the year, a further 500.000 HUF was granted to cover the printing costs of Paulinus Normantas’s book following in the footsteps of Robert Capa. The Board of Trustees accepted the completed photo-essays and work selected from them can now be seen by the public on the pages of Fotóriporter. The best pictures will also be I shown in an exhibition. Meanwhile applications were invited Qs for the 2005 competition and the forty that were sent in have I already been evaluated. In the photo-essay category, the most I promising were deemed to be Tamás Dezső’s project on the I lives of the young nouveau riche and Zoltán Pólya’s ‘picture ^ dictionary’ of ancient Hungarian crafts. The two projects received 500.000 HUF each. Klára Szarka was also given a grant worth 500.000 HUF to write a dissertation on the picture magazines of the 70s and 80s. Werner Bischof was awarded a grant of 400.000 HUF to mount his exhibition at the Árpád Együd Cultural Centre in Kaposvár and Judit Katalin Elek and Krisztina Erdei 300.000 HUF to put into effect their ideas for an exhibition called Women on Women. The Board of Trustees of the Press Photography Foundation was happy to see that there were more applications than expected and since it sadly found that it could not help several deserving ideas to ‘come to life’ for lack of funds, it is hopeful that new sponsors will come forward.
