Enchanted Threads. Lévai Nóra, Sőváradi Valéria, Torma Anna (Burlington Art Center, Canada, 2000)

Introduction 'Enchanted Threads/Mágikus fonalak' looks at the contemporary fibre work of three artists who are also friends and soul mates. Although they have been separated geographically, (Anna Torma and her family emigrated from Hungary to Canada in 1988, Nóra Lévai and Valéria Sóváradi both live in Hungary) together they continue to weave a web of companionship, support and cross-pollination in their art and in their lives. The summer of 2000 saw the friends reunited for a month, as they came together in the perfect setting of Anna's garden in Hamilton, Ontario to produce new work for this exhibition. The fruits of this reunion are part of an enchanting presentation of contemporary textile and fibre works and I am very pleased to have been associated with this magical process and these accomplished artists. Thank you to the artists involved for their joyous enthusiasm and commitment to this project, and to all along the way that helped this project evolve. /Dawn White Beatty, Curator - Burlington Art Centre/
