Debrecen, Hungary Abstract: During the identification of dragonflies (Odonata) it can occur that the subspecies and sometimes even the species status is uncertain or questionable. Such cases present serious difficulty when we want to evaluate the taxon composition in chorological and/or ecological aspect. The need of clarification arises in case of a member of the native dragonfly-fauna too, the small red-eyed damselfly (Erythromma viridulum Charpentier, 1840). Since BUCHHOLZ found in his paper from 1963 based on Macedonian investigations that the taxonomical status of the individuals of Erytromma viridulum collected there probably were not identical with the ones lived in Germany. In our revision we would like to decide which form occurs in our country or we have both or possibly a third form. For the sake of this we measured the morphometric traits (fiill length of body, abdomen and wing; characteristic sizes of the head, wing, leg and of the abdomen end) of 102 male and 20 female adults of a Hungárián population [backwater Süllős-foki-morotva (Kisar)] of the small red-eyed damselfly. We took photos of these marks with digital camera, microscope and scanning electron microscope and analyzed the data with statistical methods. By our investigations we would like to provide references primarily for the comparison of the native populations of the species and besides for the comparison with the international results.
