Design Canada Awards - A progress report (Ottawa, 1980)

Canadian design: a triumph and a tribute The years of effort by those dedicated to the cause of design, of Canadian industry, and of Canadian exports are bearing fruit better and more significantly than ever. In recognition of the talent, the initiative, and the dedication of those - people and companies alike - who deserve credit for this truly Canadian success story, the National Design Council, Design Canada and the Department of Industry, Trade and Commerce present the Chairman's Award for Design Management, Awards of Excellence for Canadian products, and Professional Citations for outstanding Canadian designers. In so doing our purpose is threefold. We wish to give the broadest possible recognition to the personal and corporate accomplishments of individuals and companies who have promoted the effective use of design by the success of their products on the domestic and international markets. We wish to reinforce the old adage that "nothing succeeds like success" and we hope that the example set by the award winners will provide proof and encouragementforthe management of Canadian corporations to adopt design as a practical, effective and financially rewarding tool.
