Studia Scientiarium Mathematicarum Hungarica 1. (1966)

1-2. szám

l* PREFACE The new journal „Studia Scientiarum Mathematicarum Hungarica” was created by the Hungarian Academy of Sciences to fill the gap caused by the discontinuance of the „Publications of the Mathematical Institute of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences”, which existed from 1956 until 1965. Many papers in the first volume of this journal have been sent by their authors to the „Publications of the Mathematical Institute” before its discontinuance, and have been taken over by the editorial board of the „Studia”. The new journal will publish — in the same way as its predecessor — papers devoted to any branch-of mathematics and of its applications. The term „mathematical sciences” in the title should be understood as having a somewhat broader meaning than „mathematics”; it includes also the applications of mathematics to science, technology, economics etc. We want to express by the title also that in this journal special emphasis will be laid on the applications of mathematics. Our journal will collaborate closely with the Mathematical Institute of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. The Scientific Council of the Institute acts as advisory board and the Library of the Institute arranges the exchange. However, Studia Scientiarum Mathematicarum Hungarica is open to any matematician in Hungary or abroad, and contributions are herewith cordially invited. Alfréd Rényi Editor
